Magnitude 6 risk areas are Upper Crooked River, South of Cape Kidnappers, Culverden, Southwest of Kaikoura, Kaikoura, East of Kaikoura, Seaward Kaikouras, Lower Clarence, Offshore Clarence, Ward, Cape Campbell.
Magnitude 5 risk areas are Amberley, Mid Awatere Valley, Southwest of Wellington, Levin, Northern Cook Strait, Turakirae Head, Porangahau, Eketahuna, Dannevirke, Waipukurau, Wairoa, Gisborne.
Magnitude 4+ risk areas are East Cape, Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Tokoroa, Murupara, Urewera.
Quakes have been steadily easing back for several days but that is about to change.
Quakes may start building up over several days, becoming strong near Christmas.
The likelihood of a Mag 6 is low but possible.
Volcanoes quiet.
Be prepared.

A flurry of deep local quakes came with the big 11.51pm New Ireland 7.9.
Local quakes were otherwise under Mag 4 but increasing in frequency.
A big Pacific quake day but luckily near the Equator.
