Magnitude 5 risk areas are Culverden, Seaward Kaikouras, Kaikoura, Lower Clarence, Ward, Cape Campbell, North of Cape Campbell, Porangahau, Dannevirke, Waipukurau, Cape Kidnappers.
Magnitude 4 risk areas are Fiordland, Haupiri River, Eketahuna, Castlepoint, East Cape, Opotiki, Rotorua, Urewera.
Higher risk areas are Seaward Kaikouras, Cape Campbell.
Volcanoes quiet.

Northeast of Cape Campbell 4.1 11.22pm
The forecast period is extended to 28 January.
Northern Hawkes Bay is added to Mag 4 risk areas.
Solar quake driving conditions arrived on time but little action on the ground.
Pacific conditions seem to be very volcanic so this may explain the lack of quakes although it is also possible that a quake buildup is underway.
Quakes may be infrequent on 28 January ahead of a pickup on 29 January.

The forecast period is extended to 29 January.
Local quakes have been very subdued.
Pacific conditions have been very volcanic so local quakes could be subdued on 29 January as a result.
Forecast confidence = low.
No sign of activity at any local volcanoes.

Local quakes were under Mag 4 during the period.
No forecast was offered for 30 January. Quakes were under Mag 4.
The period was volcanic and never came this way.
