Local quakes are below Mag 4 so far during the period but high frequency. Taupo quake swarm is weakening today and quakes have tended to spread back into forecast locations Bay of Plenty and Lower North Island. Fiordland is conspicuously quiet, justifying a rare omission from forecast risk locations. Spaceweather is easing today but new potentially strong geomagnetic Kp5/6 storms are possible late on 8 December from yet another coronal hole windstream. Long lived coronal holes windstreams have driven all the action in November-December including the 9-14 November SW Pacific Mag 7 quake period. Sunspots on the other hand have been relatively quiet...so far. Isolated Mag 4 quakes in forecast risk locations are possible ahead of a quake pickup late on 8 December. Forecast. 5 December 2022. Magnitude 5 risk location is South of Kermadec Islands. Magnitude 4 risk locations are Taupo, Tokoroa, Rotorua, Tauranga, Whakatane, Gisborne, Wairoa, Hastings, Waipukurau, Masterton, Cape Campbell, North of D"Urville Island, Taumarunui, Tapuaenuku, Hanmer, Upper Rakaia.
